What's a snowskate?

Snowskate is a perfect blend of a snowboard and a skateboard. You can ride it downhill on the snow — just like a snowboard, but it doesn't have bindings — like a skateboard.

It feels a lot like a snowboard but without bindings it’s a bit scarier and therefore way more fun at lower speeds or on smaller hills!

What does it look like?

Simply put, it's a large skateboard with a ski for wheels. Snowskates come in different shapes and sizes but the main components are always the same.

Scroll down to see what it's made of.

Grip

Made of a flat soft EVA foam, however some also add studded pads for extra grip, like Prism Grip.
Grip

Top deck

Regular wooden longboard deck with kicktails, usually about 36" or 90cm long.
Deck

Trucks

Trucks connect top deck and subdeck. Each can rotate slightly around main axis allowing subdeck to flex more evenly.
Trucks

Subdeck

Basically a snowboard - it has wooden core, steel edges and waxed base. Usually around 48" or 120cm long.
subdeck

Leash

A coil cord or a stretchy rope to prevent the snowskate from going downhill by itself if you fall.

What the FAQ?
How to ride it?
Just like a snowboard - you can carve, make sharp turns or quick stops. You can also do skateboard tricks like shove-it and kickflip. Or you can ride it like a longboard and practice your coleman and stand-up power slides.
Is it hard to learn?
You don't need to a pro-skateboarder for this. If you already have snowboarding experience, snowskating will be easy.
Can I ride it in all ski resorts?
Most ski resorts allow snowskates. However, some require riders to be strapped in while getting on a lift and some completely ban snowskating, so it’s a good idea to check with the specific resort you plan to visit beforehand.
Why not snowboard?
It’s more fun at lower speeds and on smaller hills. If you feel getting bored on your local ski hill — try snowskate. The unofficial slogan of snowskating is "Make hills feel like mountains again!"
